Work experience

Postcards from abroad

FH WN students share their experiences during their Erasmus+ Traineeship abroad with us:

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA * Media Link Inc.  * Mandatory Traineeship

Kulmer Elisabeth * Business Consultancy International * January 2016 - May 2016

I chose to do my traineeship with a marketing agency in Illinois, in the United States. The advantage of working for a marketing agency is that you get major insights in different areas that the marketing industry offers. Throughout mytraineeship with Media Link I worked with numerous local, regional, national, as well as governmental clients.

Media Link continuously ensured that I was part of the Quad Cities community. I was invited to join the team at fundraisers and after-hours activities, as well as to various networking events. During these, I had the opportunity to listen to Juan Sepulveda as well as getting to know the people behind John Deere Birdies for Charity.

Over the past months, I learned more about the field of marketing than I could have ever expected from a traineeship and I am truly grateful for the opportunities I have been given at Media Link. Not only have I gained experience in the field of marketing, I have also made friendships that are meant to last a lifetime. Media Link’s recommendation is what ultimately got me a position at The World Fair Trade Organization Asia. I recommend interning abroad to anyone who is eager to learn, and who is not afraid to step outside his or her comfort zone. I can guarantee that interning abroad will be a huge step in ones career path.

GERMANY * Event0 GmbH, Berlin * E+ Mandatory Traineeship

Lanzinger Florian * Produktmarketing und Projektmanagement * June 2015 - August 2015

I really wanted to learn more about the "start up-life" and therefore decided to complete my traineeship at Event GmbH (eventmanagement and project management). During my traineeship I experienced a high level of resoponsibility which had an enormous learning effect. I was also given the opportunity to visit Copenhagen and Hamburg during the summer. Generally speaking, Berlin has countless opportunities in terms of leisure, nightlife and culture.

The fact that the traineeship was unpaid was certainly not ideal, but was compensated by the experience I have made. The Erasmus funding allowed me to realize the traineeship. Without additional income, the traineeship in Berlin would not have been affordable for me.

SPAIN * San Lucar Fruit S.L. Valencia * Erasmus+ Traineeship for Graduates

Kajtazova Dajana * Wirtschaftsberatung * August 2015 - Februar 2016

DENMARK * One Funky Furniture * E+ Mandatory Traineeship

Kaltenböck Anita * Produktmarketing & Projektmgmt * June - August 2015

For me travelling is not only an adventure, it is a way of life.

I have chosen to spend my Erasmus+ traineeship in Denmark, since I have friends in Copenhagen. I have visited Denmark a couple of times before and I really liked the Danish mentality, lifestyle and language. Therefore, I wanted to spend a longer period in Copenhagen. I have chosen this particular company for my traineeship because it is a cool start-up company, which lives up to the Danish lifestyle a 100%. Unfortunately, my three-months internship was unpaid but I gained a lot of experience and luckily I had the support of Erasmus+ which of course made the stay a bit easier.

My conclusion - an internship abroad is an excellent opportunity to explore new cultures, make life-long friends and enjoy new challenges.

GERMANY * Pro Natur GmbH *  E+ Mandatory Traineeship

May Anna-Lena * Produktmarketing & Projektmgmt * July - August 2015

The traineeship at Pro Nature offered me completely new approaches that focus on a long-term perspective. In addition, I learned a lot about sustainable and holistic marketing. Thanks to the financial support of the Erasmus+ grant, I was able to complete my traineeship in Frankfurt. I would not hesitate to recommend the traineeship to anyone who wants to benefit from working in an area of interest and have the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge needed for the chosen occupation in a real-world, practical setting.

THE NETHERLANDS * BaByliss Nederland * E+ Mandatory Traineeship

Frank Lukas * Wirtschaftsberatung * January - May 2015

„Travel is fatal to prejudice“- Mark Twain
During my 4-months traineeship abroad I lived in a student residence within the beaufitul old city of Utrecht, right in the center of the Netherlands. I was given the opportunity to get to know many people from nations such as China, Indonesia, India, the U.S. and many European countries. I was able to expand my horizon and I learned to be more open and relaxed. No matter what you major in at university, there will always be lessons that can only be learned in the "school of life". During my traineeship I was able to develop an integrated marketing concept based on a self-designed online survey. Additionally, I was given the opportunity to attend numerous meetings to gain an isight into the work structures and processes of large companies. The advantage of the Erasmus+ grant is of course the financial aspect which shouldn't be underestimated. Erasmus+ helps young people to understand what it means to be a European citizen. If we stay at home, we feel as an Austrian, German, Spanish or Italian. I can only encourage
young peopleto go and live abroad and open uptoall the opportunities that exist.
