The study of finance is at the core of understanding the economic interactions and decision making processes of individuals, businesses, and other institutions. The research projects in this area engage economic and financial theory coupled with empirical analysis in order to advance our understanding of the financial and economic environment as well as to deliver practically relevant results.
The research activities within the area of Finance have a broad scope and cover several key topics in finance. They can be broadly divided into on the one hand, the role of the financial markets and institutions in the economy and the influence of emerging technological developments on the functioning of financial institutions. On the other, they involve the exploration of the connections between firm strategy and risk management with corporate structures and governance.
The results of our research are relevant to other academics as well as policymakers and business practitioners. Our cooperation with the Wirtschaftskammer Niederösterreich results in the biennial publication of a report on the contribution of the banking sector to regional economic development in Austria.

A central role of financial systems in economies is to foster economic growth by allocating savings to the most efficient use and allowing risk diversification.
