We provide language courses to all faculties of the University of Applied Sciences Wiener Neustadt as part of the curriculum and also additional courses for our students.

You will broaden your knowledge of English in your compulsory subjects and, if you are interested, you can choose from our voluntary additional offer between other languages: English, French, German, Spanish and others.

Electives Languages winter semester 2025/26

Registration is possible from 25 August to 14 September 2025.

The courses take place 14 weeks with two (German three) teaching units each.

Please note our fee regulations.

You only have a fixed place on the course once the contribution towards costs has been paid. You will automatically receive the payment request by email. We reserve the right to cancel courses if we do not have enough participants - you will be informed in good time.

Courses are graded and appear on your semester certificate if they are completed positively. Negative grades are not shown. The grades of the electives have no influence on your studies.

A2.2 (Lower Intermediate, part 2)

I can communicate in simple, routine situations involving a direct exchange of information on familiar and common topics. I can use simple means to talk about personal and social topics, ask for information and express my opinion. I can write simple texts, give advice, describe learning problems and pictures.

B1.1 (Intermediate, part 1)

I can understand the essentials in short, clear messages and texts. I can communicate during routine tasks, make brief social contacts, express my feelings and react to them.

B2.1 (Vantage)

I can understand information about familiar matters such as work, school and leisure, as well as radio and television programmes of personal interest. I can deal with most familiar situations. I can talk about my experiences, clarify and explain ideas.

C1 (Advanced)

I can understand longer texts and follow complex lines of argument if I am familiar with the topic. I can usually communicate spontaneously and fluently. I can take part in discussions and justify my point of view.

This course also prepares you for the ÖSD C1 certificate. After completing the course, you can take the certificate externally on a voluntary basis.

English for all faculties

During the English courses within your study programme you will learn to communicate in English in the relevant professional context.

You will learn to

At the beginning of your studies, you will take an entrance exam so that we can provide you with the best possible support.

Depending on your language level, you will learn to deal with everyday or more complex situations. Our courses are based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR):

Beginners (A1/A2): You can communicate in simple everyday situations, read short messages and descriptions, listen and conduct dialogues, and write short e-mails and other messages; Topics: family, shopping, work, travel

Intermediate (B1/B2): You can communicate in everyday and professional situations, talk about both concrete and abstract topics, and explain interests, views, plans as well as and advantages and disadvantages. You can write longer texts on a wide range of topics; Topics: work, school, leisure, familiar areas of expertise

Advanced (C1): You can communicate without problems in all everyday situations and in a professional context. You can understand longer factual texts and literary productions, can talk about abstract concepts and implicit ideas, and can write long, coherent texts. You can express yourself spontaneously and fluently.

Entrance levels in tertiary education: Comparison of normal standards with the competence achieved by first-semester students and comparison with graduates from various types of schools.

Needs analysis: English for the workplace: Summary and analysis of the results of periodic surveys on English in the workplace.

English for Specific Purposes, English for Academic Purposes: Comparison of learner language and published abstracts in terms of stylistics.
