Non-Accessible Content
Some of the content listed below is currently not fully accessible. We are continuously working to eliminate these barriers as soon as possible:
Success Criterion 1.1.1 Non-text Content
We are revising our website to provide comprehensible text alternatives for editorially maintained images. Due to the large volume of content, it may occur that not all images are provided with text alternatives. We are continuously working to remove these barriers.
Success Criterion 1.3.1 Info and Relationships
The slider carousel present on the homepage and some subpages contains elements with ARIA roles that require certain subordinate roles. This is not ensured. We plan to replace or remove the slider carousel with an accessible plugin.
Some pages show gaps in the heading structure. We are addressing these issues through the training of our editors. If structure problems cannot be resolved editorially, we are working on changes to the programming.
In some parts of the site, list elements are not correctly structured. The CMS generates incorrect HTML structures for certain navigation elements. We will also work on removing these barriers.
Success Criterion 2.2.2 Pause, Stop, Hide
The slider on the homepages is accessible via assistive systems but does not have clearly recognisable controls to pause or restart it. We are working on a solution to replace the slider with an accessible version in a future website update.
Success Criterion 2.4.4 Link Purpose (In Context))
Despite thorough revision, the site still includes link elements that lack visible text for screen readers. We will address these barriers step by step through further editing.
Success Criterion 2.4.7 Focus Visible
On the homepage, there is a contact widget. It is accessible via keyboard, but the focus is not visible. The widget’s form is embedded in an iFrame and is also not implemented in an accessible way. Unfortunately, we have no control over the design of the widget, as it is an external service. We are working on improving this widget.
Success Criterion 3.1.2 Language of Parts
The German version of the website contains content in English. Due to limitations in the CMS system, these parts have not yet been correctly tagged. We are working on removing this barrier.
Success Criterion 1.2.5 Audio Description (Prerecorded)
The video and audio content embedded on fhwn.ac.at is primarily hosted on YouTube and Soundcloud. It is not possible to provide the required audio descriptions for some of these videos. Therefore, WCAG Success Criterion 1.2.5 (Audio Description - prerecorded) is not met. In our view, remedying this constitutes a disproportionate burden within the meaning of the accessibility regulations. For new videos, we plan to provide suitable alternatives where this does not represent a disproportionate burden. For older content that is no longer being edited, an alternative will be provided if required.
Success Criterion 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum)
Certain website elements still fail to meet minimum contrast requirements. We are working on removing these barriers as well.
Success Criterion 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value
The main menu uses invalid ARIA attributes. Improvements are planned to ensure accessibility. Although the main menu is accessible via keyboard, screen reader users may sometimes not be able to reach the dropdown layer. A further revision of the main menu is planned.
Some PDF, Word, or Excel files may not be screen-reader accessible. Thus, WCAG Success Criterion 4.1.2 (Name, Role, Value) is not fulfilled. Our editorial team endeavours to create current documents correctly and in an accessible manner.
The homepage slider also contains improperly tagged ARIA-hidden elements.
Third-Party Content
Content from external presenters or partners, which is beyond the editorial control of FHWN, may not meet accessibility requirements. Nevertheless, we strive for improvements in these cases as well.
