Erasmus+ traineeship abroad

Your career boost!

Seize the opportunity and apply for lucrative Erasmus+ funding for your internship abroad! An internship must be organised by students themselves as the International Office does not arrange internships. However, the International Office will provide you with advice and support regarding the application and processing of Erasmus+ funding. Depending on the host country, your internship can be funded with 570 to 670 € per month.

FAQs

  • Students must find an internship placement themselves; the International Office is only responsible for managing Erasmus+ funding.
  • Duration: 5–30 days or 2 to 12 months. Unfortunately, funding is not available for a period between 30 days and 2 months. Therefore, internships lasting, for example, 6 weeks cannot be funded.
  • Funding is generally only available for internships in Erasmus+ program countries (EU member states as well as Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Turkey). In exceptional cases, funding may also be available for non-program countries (e.g., Switzerland). We can only give information on whether there is budget available for a mobility in a non-program country once you have a secured spot for an internship in one of these countries.
  • Any company, training or research institution, or other organization within the Erasmus+ program countries can serve as a host institution, except for EU institutions and similar organizations (see "exclusion criteria").
  • Your head of study program must confirm that the internship is a meaningful addition to your studies.
  • The internship must be a full-time position.

Erasmus+ funding is not possible in the following cases:

  • If your residence is already in the host country (e.g., commuters).
  • If the internship is with an EU institution or other EU bodies, including specialized agencies, organisations managing EU programs, EU parliament members, or private individuals.
  • If you have already received more than 12 months of Erasmus+ funding within your current study cycle.
  • If the internship is only a part-time position.

There are three different types of internships. For each type, you must obtain confirmation from your degree program director that the internship is a useful addition to your studies!

  • Mandatory Internship:
If your curriculum includes an internship, it is considered a mandatory internship under the Erasmus+ program. For a mandatory internship, you must have at least 3 ECTS credits per month of stay accredited at FHWN for the internship.
  • Voluntary Internship:
If you do not have an internship in your curriculum, you can do a so-called voluntary internship. It is usually completed during non-teaching periods.
  • Graduate Internship:
You can get funding for an internship that you start after your graduation and end within 12 months after graduation. The application for funding of a graduate internship must be submitted while you are still a student, at least 2 months before your final exam!

The prerequisite for applying for Erasmus+ funding for an internship abroad is that you have already received a confirmed internship placement. Students have to organise an internship placement themselves, the International Office is only responsible for the Erasmus+ funding.

Please send an informal email at least two months before the start of your internship (or in the case of a graduate internship, at least two months before graduation!) to magdalena.pauer@fhwn.ac.at (or for students from Wieselburg to andrea.fuchs-poeachacker@fhwn.ac.at) with the following details:

  • Name
  • Degree Program
  • Internship company
  • Start and end date of the internship
  • Type of internship (mandatory, voluntary, or graduate internship)

You can only apply for Erasmus+ funding once you have secured a confirmed internship placement! However, you are welcome to schedule an information meeting at the International Office in advance.

  • Mandatory and voluntary internships:
The Erasmus+ funding application must be submitted to the International Office at least 2 months before the start of the internship.

  • Graduate Internship:
The Erasmus+ funding application must be submitted to the International Office at least 2 months before graduation (not before the start of the internship!).

Do you have special inclusion needs, such as due to a chronic illness, a disability, or are you planning to travel with your child? Erasmus+ offers special support options in such cases. The International Office is happy to advise you and will, of course, handle your request with full confidentiality!
